‘Pol-Cat!!’ is an exhibition featuring abstract paintings by graduates of Slade School of Art and Edinburgh College of Art:
Gracjana Rejmer, Magda Blasinska and Ernesto Canovas.
The three London based artists bring together a selection of new works, where paint is a core element of their studio practice.
Expressive and gestural paintings by Gracjana Rejmer are based on a representation of her surroundings, depicting the nature of shapes, objects and colours.
Blasinska’s work brings elements of Sassetta’s paintings into a modern context by featuring figurative and geometrical forms.
Canovas’s works are characterised by their physical depth and layering, and encourage the viewer to study the images behind these surfaces which become so obscured as to almost, but not quite, vanish. Regardless of this mystery and ambiguity, the sheer delight in the gestural use of paint is a construct which remains always figurative.
The exhibition opens 16 July at 6.30pm and runs until 5 August 2011.
